The agreement between Meta and Donald Trump
After years of legal battles, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has reached a settlement with Donald Trump to close the lawsuit filed by the former president in 2021. The case stemmed from the suspension of Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts following the events of January 6, 2021, when his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta will pay $25 million as part of the settlement. However, the company will not admit to any wrongdoing.
How will the $25 million be used?
As per the agreement, $22 million will go toward funding Trump’s presidential library, while the remaining $3 millionwill cover the former president’s legal expenses.
The decision by Meta comes at a sensitive time for the company, which continues to face scrutiny over content moderation policies and allegations of political censorship.
Meta denies any wrongdoing
Despite the payout, Meta emphasized that the settlement does not imply guilt. The company stated that Trump’s social media ban was in line with its platform policies but chose to resolve the dispute with a financial agreement.
Former President Donald Trump, on the other hand, welcomed the deal as a victory and reiterated his stance against Big Tech, accusing them of selective censorship.
