A key event for the future of rehabilitation
The XIII Congress of the Italian Society of High Specialization Rehabilitation (SIRAS) took place at IRCCS Maugeri in Pavia, addressing the theme “Beyond Pathology: Rehabilitation Approaches for Fragile Patients with Comorbidities”.
“This Congress has fostered an exchange of knowledge between specialists in Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Rehabilitation, with the goal of developing innovative approaches to improve patients’ quality of life,” said Monica Panigazzi, SIRAS President.
An integrated approach to personalized rehabilitation
The conference highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary strategies to optimize clinical outcomes for fragile patients. The discussion focused on the integration of:
- Cardiovascular risk reduction
- Motor and cognitive recovery after stroke and neurological diseases
- Pulmonary rehabilitation for chronic conditions
- Oncological disability management
The role of robotics in rehabilitation: Fit for Medical Robotics Project
A key highlight of the Congress was the Fit for Medical Robotics Project, supported by PNRR funds and led by the CNR, involving 25 partners from universities, research centers, and companies.
- Paola Baiardi, Director of the Scientific Directorate at ICS Maugeri, introduced the project, which aims to establish eight Centers of Excellence for medical robotics.
- Giovanni D’Addio, head of the Movement Analysis and Robotics Lab at IRCCS Maugeri Telese Terme, presented the latest technological advancements in robotic rehabilitation.
- Professor Antonio Nardone and Dr. Christian Lunetta detailed ongoing clinical trials, while Professor Pietro Fiore explored the sustainability of robotic therapy.
Advancing rehabilitation: technology meets personalization
The Congress underscored the necessity of a rehabilitation model that integrates advanced technology and personalized care, with discussions on:
- Virtual reality and art therapy
- Music therapy for neuromotor recovery
- Advanced protocols for dysphagia and tracheal decannulation
“The integration of research, technology, and patient-centered care is key to modern rehabilitation,” emphasized Luca Damiani, President of ICS Maugeri.
