A new chapter for Venice Biennale
Willem Dafoe, renowned American actor, has been appointed as the new artistic director of the Theatre section of the Venice Biennale for the 2025-2026 biennium. The decision was made official by the Biennale’s board of directors, chaired by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco.
Returning to his roots
According to Buttafuoco, “theatre is indeed the original home of his luminous career.” Dafoe, known for his unforgettable performances on both screen and stage, brings with him extensive experience and a unique vision that promises to further enrich the prestigious Venetian event.
Expectations and future
Buttafuoco also stated, “I, like everyone else, can’t wait to be a spectator of the Festival he will build as Artistic Director.” Expectations are high, and the audience eagerly anticipates the innovations and surprises Dafoe will undoubtedly bring.
