Earth trembles in northern Italy
Earlier today, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck the Bolognese Apennines, with its epicenter located in Alto Reno Terme. The quake originated 55 km below the surface, a depth that likely reduced its surface impact.
The quake’s epicenter in a mountainous area
The nearest towns to the epicenter are Alto Reno Terme, Castel di Casio, Sambuca Pistoiese and Camugnano. These are small mountain towns surrounded by nature, frequently monitored by Italian geologists due to the area’s seismic activity.
No damage, but seismic risk awareness returns
Though the quake was felt, no injuries or damage were reported. Still, the incident reminds locals and authorities of the seismic vulnerability of the Apennines, an area that has experienced more intense events in the past.
