Trapani’s journey to become a unesco creative city
The Western Sicily Tourist District is working tirelessly to nominate Trapani and its surroundings as a Unesco creative city of gastronomy. The official application will be submitted by January 31, 2025, and the final decision is expected in March 2025 in Paris. This ambitious initiative seeks to highlight local gastronomic excellence and strengthen the bond between culture and tourism.
High school students leading the logo design
A key element of the application is the creation of a representative logo, entrusted to students from the Michelangelo Buonarroti High School of Arts in Trapani. The talented youth from grades IV and V are passionately working to design a brand that encapsulates the region’s gastronomic identity. This logo will represent the application in Paris.
Key steps and community involvement
In December, the Tourist District will present the dossier and guidelines to institutions, tourism operators, and citizens. By the end of the year, president Rosalia D’Alì will share the application with the Italian National Unesco Commission. From January to March 2025, meetings with other creative cities will take place, and, if selected, the dossier will be submitted to Unesco.
Enthusiasm and support for the initiative
Rosalia D’Alì emphasized that the project, which has been months in the making, is progressing steadily despite tight deadlines. Cristiano Casa, Unesco candidacy consultant, praised the community’s enthusiasm and stressed the importance of this recognition for boosting tourism and celebrating culinary creativity.
