The law firm Trevisan & Cuonzo recently achieved a significant legal victory for Loro Piana, the renowned luxury brand, in the Bari Business Court. On November 25, 2024, the court granted Loro Piana’s precautionary request, ruling against a company engaged in the online sale of luxury footwear and clothing.

The dispute: unfair competition and trademark infringement

The case centered on allegations of unfair competition and trademark infringement. Specifically, Loro Piana identified:

  • The sale of products imitating its iconic “Summer Walk” and “Open Walk” footwear from the White Sole line.
  • The improper use of the “Loro Piana” brand name on the defendant’s website, which misleadingly suggested an association with Loro Piana’s products, such as tailored jackets.

The court found these activities unlawful, prohibiting the defendant from manufacturing, marketing, or promoting counterfeit goods and any unauthorized use of the Loro Piana trademark.

The court’s ruling

Given the global reputation of the Loro Piana brand and the international focus of the defendant’s offerings, the court also mandated:

  • The publication of the decision on the defendant’s website, with an English translation.
  • Publication in major Italian newspapers, including Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore.

This ruling is part of Loro Piana’s broader program to protect its intellectual property rights, managed by its in-house legal team, led by Associate General Counsel Monica Kristensen, with support from Trevisan & Cuonzo.
