Oratorio in Jazz: the concert that blends spirituality and music to honor Don Tonino Bello

A unique musical and spiritual experience

The Teatro Sociale di Fasano is set to host an extraordinary event that combines the power of jazz with deep spirituality. On Sunday, March 16, at 7:00 PM, the audience will have the opportunity to experience “Oratorio in Jazz“, a musical and narrative tribute to the unforgettable figure of Don Tonino Bello. This special edition, created by renowned drummer and composer Antonio Di Lorenzo, promises to be a unique experience, blending captivating melodies and profound texts.

The bond between Antonio Di Lorenzo and Don Tonino Bello

Antonio Di Lorenzo, a central figure in the Italian jazz scene, has a special connection with Don Tonino Bello. For two years, he lived as a conscientious objector alongside the bishop at the Molfetta seminary, embracing his message of peace and humanity. Known as “the saint with an apron“, Don Tonino left a spiritual legacy comparable to figures like Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

An original repertoire of jazz and reflection

The concert is not just a sequence of musical pieces and readings but a true emotional fusion of music and words. The selected texts, curated by Di Lorenzo, with contributions from Elvira Zaccagnino and Giancarlo Piccinni, intertwine with the original compositions of the drummer. Some pieces are inspired by Don Tonino’s words, like “Non il Segno del Potere”, while others evoke moments spent with him, such as “My Gospel for Don Tonino” and “Shqiptare Night Procession”.

    An exceptional ensemble

On stage, alongside Di Lorenzo, will be some of Italy’s finest musicians:

    • Davide Saccomanno (keyboards and vocals)
    • Dado Penta (bass)
    • Sabino Fino (tenor sax)
    • Claudio Chiarelli (alto and soprano sax)
    • Mino Lacirignola (trumpet)
    • Vito Topputo (guitar)
    • Gabriele Mastropasqua (baritone sax)

Adding to the experience, the narrating voice of Rosanna Savoia will guide the audience through emotion and reflection.

New Year’s Eve in Trani: Tony Hadley and Radio Selene bring magic

Capodanno a Trani: Tony Hadley e Radio Selene regalano emozioni

A vibrant crowd filled piazza Quercia in Trani to celebrate the arrival of 2025. This southern Italian city hosted one of the most anticipated events, featuring Tony Hadley, former frontman of Spandau Ballet, and an unforgettable show organized in collaboration with Radio Selene.

The night kicked off at 10:30 PM with performances by Radio Selene’s speakers and DJs, joined by dancers from the South Klan crew of Studio Danza in Trani. Between music, dances, and stunning choreography, the audience enjoyed a magical evening celebrating the radio’s 40th anniversary with a musical journey from 1984 to the present day.

When Hadley took the stage, the magic peaked. With iconic hits like “True”, “Gold”, and an emotional tribute to Queen with “We Are the Champions”, the artist delivered a journey through four decades of music. Accompanied by his international band, Hadley proved once again why he is one of pop music’s most beloved performers.

The evening reached its climax with the midnight countdown as piazza Quercia lit up with lights and confetti. Mayor Amedeo Bottaro, together with Hadley and Radio Selene’s team, toasted to the new year, wishing everyone a joyful and hopeful 2025.

The celebration didn’t end there: the following morning at 11:00, the same square hosted the New Year’s Grand Concert featuring the ICO Suoni del Sud Orchestra, conducted by M˚ Emilia Di Pasquale.
