An emotional literary recital by Alberto Cocco premieres in Trani, blending narration, music, fashion and Sardinian flavors
A novel becomes experience: a unique journey in Trani
The story of a story is more than just a title—it’s a promise to transform a book presentation into a total emotional and artistic experience. On May 30th, 2025, at 8:00 PM, Palazzo delle Arti Beltrani in Trani will host the national premiere of this special literary event conceived and performed by Alberto Cocco, writer, narrator and restless soul.
Through a delicate interplay of words, sounds, images and flavors, the author turns the presentation of his novel “Il calendario degli animali” (La Zattera Publishing) into a living tale. The performance weaves together personal memories, literary imagination and musical suggestions, offering a ritual for all those who cherish true stories—the kind that blur the lines between fiction and life.
Sardinia, memories and prophecies: the heart of the novel
At the core of the performance lies the existential journey of Germano Foglia, a Roman photographer who arrives in Sardinia in the symbolic year 1999 for a commissioned job. That year, marking the passage from one millennium to another, becomes a turning point: through unexpected encounters—with a silent land, the teachings of animals, a visionary prophecy—he rediscovers meaning, peace, and love.
In this semi-autobiographical novel, Alberto Cocco pours in fragments of his own life: memories, dreams, struggles, and a deep quest for identity. As the performance progresses, the lines between author and character fade, and the two paths become one.
A recital of words, music, and visual art
What makes The story of a story so compelling is its structure, divided into fourteen episodes, like diary pages of an unforgettable year. Cocco alternates live readings with songs that shaped his youth, theatrical moments, video clips, witty anecdotes and reflections on life in dark, tech-dominated times.
Accompanying him are the dynamic host Alessia Simoncelli, the beautiful music of Myriam Costeri on her diatonic accordion, and the illustrations by Scyna Suffiotti, who gave faces and colors to the characters of the novel. These visuals even inspired designer Claudia Cinzia Atella to create a fashion collection dedicated to the women of the story, showcased at Milan Fashion Week and now featured in the recital.
Final notes: books, tastes, and a Sardinian embrace
The recital ends with a book signing and a delightful tasting of traditional Sardinian food and wine, sealing the event with a heartfelt and festive embrace.
