MOSAC calls for Tasers to protect Carabinieri and citizens
The incident in Villa Verucchio, where 23-year-old Muhammad Sitta was fatally shot while stabbing four people in a state of extreme agitation, has reignited the debate on equipping law enforcement with non-lethal weapons. The Autonomous Carabinieri Union (MOSAC) is renewing its call for Tasers to be supplied to all Carabinieri stations, which often operate with limited personnel and far from major urban centers.
In recent years, attacks on security officers have become increasingly frequent, forcing agents to confront dangerous individuals either unarmed or with the last resort of a firearm. MOSAC emphasizes that Carabinieri are essential for public safety and, while they accept professional risks, they must have the necessary tools to safeguard both themselves and the citizens they protect.
According to the MOSAC National Committee, the introduction of Tasers would be an effective solution to reduce the risk of loss of life, both among law enforcement officers and individuals involved in critical situations. Investing in security means providing concrete solutions for officers and greater protection for the community.
MOSAC strongly advocates for the resumption of Taser training courses and the immediate supply of these devices to smaller operational units. In a context where public safety is increasingly a priority, the availability of non-lethal weapons could mean the difference between a resolved intervention and an avoidable tragedy.
