A journey through feminism, self-awareness, and empowerment
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Teatro Nuovo di Napoli will host Svelarsi, a groundbreaking performance directed by Silvia Gallerano. Featuring an all-female cast – Giulia Aleandri, Elvira Berarducci, Smeralda Capizzi, Benedetta Cassio, Livia De Luca, Chantal Gori, Giulia Pietrozzini, and Gallerano herself – the event starts at 9:00 PM and is open exclusively to women (cis, trans, and non-binary).
More than theater: a space for reflection and connection
Svelarsi is not just a play; it is an experiment in research, delving into the stories and meanings carried by female bodies. The temporary exclusion of the male gaze, with its judgmental and oppressive overtones, creates an environment where participants can explore the resonance between their own bodies and those on stage.
The power of the body and laughter
The experience swings between moments of constraint and compression and bursts of strength and laughter. Starting from painful stories – invisibility, humiliation, oppression – the performance leads to a liberating journey of shared awareness and resilience. Each actress contributes with her physicality and stories in a process of embodied writing that transcends words.
A question, not a solution
As the director explains, “These two hours don’t provide definitive answers but leave the audience with questions and reflections. Svelarsi offers an opportunity to become more aware and perhaps a little freer.”
