A new low-pressure system approaching from the west will bring more heavy showers and thunderstorms, especially in central and southern regions
Unstable weather takes center stage
Italy remains under the grip of unsettled weather. The high-pressure system continues to be absent, allowing a new low-pressure circulation between France and Spain—and soon another Mediterranean cyclone—to trigger a week marked by frequent storms and intense rainfall, especially across central and southern regions.
48 hours of lightning and showers: brace for Tuesday and Wednesday
According to Manuel Mazzoleni from 3bmeteo.com, the next 48 hours will be particularly unstable. Atlantic airflows, driven by the depression over France, will cause heavy showers to develop today over the Alps, Apennines, and parts of the Adriatic and Ionian coasts. By evening, rain is expected to spread to adjacent plains and foothills.
On Wednesday, expect a similar pattern: widespread thunderstorms, especially during the day, affecting central-southern inland areas, northwestern regions, and parts of northeastern Italy.
Southern Italy under fire: new cyclone approaching
Starting Wednesday, a new low-pressure vortex will approach Sardinia and Sicily, initiating another phase of severe weather. Thursday will be the most critical day, with intense thunderstorms hitting southern Sardinia, Sicily, and Calabria. On Friday, rain will also reach Campania, Basilicata, and the central-southern Adriatic coast.
Meanwhile, the central and northern regions won’t be completely spared, with scattered showers forming over the mountains and sometimes reaching the Po Valley and northern Adriatic.
Will the weekend bring relief?
A bit of hope on the horizon: the weekend could bring a break in the weather. As the low-pressure system moves away to the south, drier and sunnier conditions may slowly return, particularly in the Centre-North.
However, some isolated storms may still develop in mountainous areas. Temperatures will remain below average in the South, while the North could enjoy mild highs up to 25-26°C by Thursday.
Italy remains in a stormy loop, with another week of umbrellas, thunder, and uncertainty. The weekend may finally offer a glimpse of summer—but only time will tell. Keep an eye on the radar and your fingers crossed.
