The crisis at Trasnova, marked by the announcement of 97 layoffs, has drawn the attention of institutions and key players in the automotive sector. In response, Stellantis, through its head of communication and institutional affairs, Daniela Poggio, announced the group’s willingness to “support the company.” This statement comes at a critical moment, with efforts focused on the positive conclusion of the talks at Mimit.
A perfect storm for the automotive industry
According to Poggio, Italy’s automotive industry is currently facing a “perfect storm,” primarily driven by three main factors:
- The stringent European Union regulations, posing significant challenges to companies.
- The rising competition from China, undermining the competitiveness of the European market.
- The overall decline in demand, impacting the entire sector.
Additionally, the shift towards electric vehicles is described as a challenge that must be tackled “together,” requiring collaboration among companies, governments, and workers to ensure a sustainable transformation.
An uncertain but shared future
Stellantis’ willingness to engage in dialogue and support Trasnova offers a glimmer of hope for the affected workers. However, structural difficulties in the industry demand broader interventions, including favorable policies, transition incentives, and a unified strategic plan.
