La colonna sonora della lotta femminile
Sognatrici, The soundtrack of female empowerment
Sognatrici, the latest album by Gabriella Lucia Grasso, is a tribute to women’s courage and their struggles. Released by Musica Lavica Records, the album also serves as the soundtrack for the theater play of the same name, written with Valeria Benatti. Sponsored by Amnesty International Italy, it underscores the ongoing fight for women’s rights.
A homage to women who shaped history
The authors drew inspiration from revisiting history to honor women who fought to change their fate and that of future generations. The album features ten original songs and a choral rendition of Bella Ciao, enriched by collaborations with artists such as Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, Tosca, and Elena Ledda.
The stories behind the songs
Each track in Sognatrici tells a powerful true story, from persecuted witches to denied rights. Highlights include:
- Mariannina: dedicated to Mariannina Coffa, a Sicilian poet who defied patriarchy.
- Viola: the story of Franca Viola, a symbol of the abolition of marriage reparations.
- Spara ora: a reflection on the eradication of honor killings.
Every song is a cry for freedom and a call to action for ongoing battles.
