Sinner shines in Rome and advances to the round of 16

The world number one beats De Jong and sets up a clash with Cerundolo at the Internazionali d’Italia

A solid win confirms Sinner’s momentum

Jannik Sinner continues to impress at the Internazionali d’Italia, notching up his second straight win since returning from a brief suspension. The world number one dispatched Dutch player Jesper De Jong, ranked 93rd, with a commanding 6-4 6-2 in just 90 minutes of play.

De Jong puts up a fight, but Sinner finds his rhythm

Despite the scoreline, the match wasn’t entirely one-sided. In the early stages of the second set, Sinner appeared to be in a more measured mode, struggling to find his best tennis. He even suffered a fall that affected his wrist, but the scare didn’t derail him. From 3-2 onwards, the Italian raised his level, closing out the match with the confidence of a top-ranked player.

Next challenge: Cerundolo

Waiting for him in the round of 16 is Francisco Cerundolo, the 17th seed from Argentina. A more formidable opponent than De Jong, Cerundolo promises to test Sinner’s physical and tactical endurance. It’s set to be a must-watch clash at the Foro Italico.

Spotlight on Berrettini vs Ruud

The Italian evening of tennis doesn’t end with Sinner. Matteo Berrettini is set to face Casper Ruud, world number six and known for his solid baseline game. The home crowd will be rallying behind Berrettini, hoping to see a double Italian success story under the lights in Rome.
