The Baschi Verdi of the Padova Provincial Command have carried out two major operations to protect consumers, seizing over 3 million electrical items for smartphones and approximately 68,000 dietary supplements that lacked mandatory certifications or minimum legal information.
These interventions, stemming from an in-depth investigative effort, aim to combat illegal commerce while ensuring consumer safety and health.
Details of the operations
The first intervention took place at a wholesale business in Padova’s industrial area, where officers discovered an importer specializing in smartphone accessories. Many of these items, compatible with “Apple” devices, lacked the necessary safety standards and declarations of conformity required by European regulations.
In a second operation, conducted in downtown Padova, an establishment was found selling dietary supplements targeted at athletes and the elderly. These products were missing safety warnings and instructions in Italian, a crucial requirement to safeguard consumers.
Penalties and consumer protection
The legal representatives of the businesses involved were reported to the local Chamber of Commerce and the Central Inspectorate for Agro-food Quality and Fraud Prevention, facing administrative penalties.
These operations highlight the Guardia di Finanza’s commitment to ensuring a competitive market and protecting consumers from potentially harmful products.
