After a heated 12-hour debate, Inter and AC Milan become owners of the stadium
A historic decision for Milanese football
After nearly twelve hours of debate, the Milan City Council approved the sale of the San Siro stadium to Inter and AC Milan. The motion passed with 24 votes in favor and 20 against, with no abstentions, marking a historic turning point for one of football’s most iconic venues.
The political battle behind the vote
The decision split the council: most of the Democratic Party voted in favor, with three dissenters. The Reformistssupported the sale unanimously, as did the Sala list, except for outgoing group leader Fumagalli, who abstained. On the other side, Greens, Brothers of Italy, Lega and Noi Moderati opposed the motion. Forza Italia walked out, though one councillor voted against.
What this means for Inter and Milan
With the deal, the two clubs will become owners of San Siro, gaining full control over redevelopment, maintenance, and commercial projects. The sale is also a major step in the modernization of Italian football, moving closer to the international model of club-owned stadiums.
What lies ahead for San Siro
The stadium’s future now depends on the clubs: whether they will renovate the existing structure or use the deal as a stepping stone for new projects. Either way, the decision radically reshapes the relationship between the city and its football giants.
