The death of a worker at Torre dei Conti revives Italy’s debate on safety: digital oversight, training, and a national action plan are urgently needed.
After the tragic collapse of Torre dei Conti in Rome, where a worker lost his life during restoration works, Unimpresa is calling for a decisive shift in Italy’s approach to workplace safety.
Giuseppe Ciarcelluto, National Councillor of Unimpresa for Safety and President of Assidal, stressed that such tragedies “cannot be dismissed as mere accidents.”
He urged the creation of a Unified Construction Site Registry, accessible in real time to inspection bodies, ensuring constant supervision and transparency.
Unimpresa advocates for stronger training of supervisors and employers, tax incentives for companies investing in safety devices, monitoring technologies, and staff education — because prevention saves lives.
“It’s time for a National Safety Plan,” Ciarcelluto concluded, “uniting regulations, inspections, and incentives. If a nation cannot protect those who work, it cannot call itself modern or just.”
