Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy welcome the President of the European Parliament
From 27 to 29 May 2025, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, will visit Italy to meet entrepreneurs, students, academics and local and national authorities. The journey will cross Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy, three engines of Italian competitiveness.
The visit will focus on four key themes: competitiveness, innovation, youth dialogue and solidarity. Metsola aims to push for more efficient EU legislation, less bureaucracy, and a deeper connection with citizens.
She will meet Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, EU Commissioner Raffaele Fitto, and the regional Presidents De Pascale, Cirio and Fontana.
Tuesday 27 May – From resilience to food safety
The first day will start in Bologna, with Metsola speaking at the National Assembly of Confindustria alongside Emanuele Orsini and Giorgia Meloni. She will then visit the Tecnopolo di Bologna, home to the Leonardo supercomputer and the ECMWF.
In the afternoon, she’ll travel to Modena to visit the Caseificio 4 Madonne, rebuilt after the 2012 earthquake thanks to EU support. At 4:45 PM, she will head to EFSA in Parma, then deliver a Lectio Magistralis at the Collegio Europeoand receive the Pico della Mirandola Award at the Teatro Regio.
Wednesday 28 May – From Ferrari to Mars
The day begins in Maranello with a visit to the Ferrari factory. In the afternoon, Metsola will be in Turin for a tour of the Piedmont Aerospace District, including Leonardo, Thales Alenia Space, and ALTEC, which simulates Martian soil. A joint press statement will follow at the Castello del Valentino, together with President Alberto Cirioand Politecnico di Torino’s rector Stefano Corgnati.
Later, Metsola will join the event “Piedmont and Europe: Innovation and High-Level Education for Sport”.
Thursday 29 May – Milan and Europe’s future
On the final day, at 9:15 AM, Metsola will be at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan for the event “Europe: Open Questions for a Common Future”. She will discuss with Antonio Tajani, Raffaele Fitto, Rector Elena Beccalli, President Attilio Fontana and Mayor Giuseppe Sala.
At 11:30 AM, she will deliver a press statement at Kilometro Rosso in Bergamo, followed by a visit to the innovation campus.
Europe closer to its people
Metsola’s visit underlines a key message: Europe listens beyond elections. Through meetings across regions, she brings the EU closer to citizens, highlighting innovation, solidarity and the role of young people.
