A nationwide operation against supremacist terrorism
The Italian State Police, directed by the Antiterrorism Divisions of the Bologna and Naples Prosecutor’s Offices and coordinated by the National Anti-Mafia and Antiterrorism Directorate, has executed 12 arrests and 25 searches across 16 provinces. The operation targeted members of the neo-Nazi group WERWOLF DIVISION, which actively spread hate speech and extreme-right propaganda, primarily on Telegram.
Objectives and structure of the extremist group
Initially named Werwolf Division and later rebranded as Divisione Nuova Alba, the group promoted supremacist and accelerationist ideologies. It aimed to overthrow the democratic state to establish an authoritarian regime based on the “Aryan race.” Members were accused of planning violent acts against high-ranking officials and illegal firearm possession.
Investigations reveal an extremist network
Over two years of investigations unveiled a hierarchical organization with defined roles such as “Commander,” “Publisher,” and “Trainer.” The group’s leaders were connected to another subversive network, the Order of Hagal, disbanded in 2022. Recruitment activities were conducted through Telegram and in-person meetings, including the dissemination of alarming propaganda material.
Historical and symbolic roots of Werwolf Division
The group’s name evokes the Nazi Werwolf units established during World War II for sabotage and guerrilla warfare. Investigators discovered a threatening flyer featuring Nazi symbols, such as the Black Sun, accompanied by an extremist call to dismantle liberal democracy.
A decisive step against extremism
This operation marks significant progress in the fight against domestic terrorism and neo-Nazism. The efforts of DIGOS and other investigative agencies have dismantled a network that posed a grave threat to public security and democratic values.
