In Pescara, Parklets have become a valuable asset for both local businesses and the city itself. Initially introduced during the health emergency as temporary solutions to expand commercial spaces, these sidewalk extensions have now become an integral part of the urban landscape. Confartigianato Pescara is urging the local administration to provide greater stability in annual permits to avoid uncertainty and encourage further investment.
According to Confartigianato Pescara’s director, Fabrizio Vianale, this is a crucial issue: “Many entrepreneurs have invested in transforming their Parklets into well-designed spaces that not only enhance the city’s aesthetics but also promote social interaction. Today, these areas allow citizens to enjoy a coffee outdoors safely, contributing to urban vibrancy and the revitalization of the city center.”
In many cities, parklets are recognized as tools for environmental and social enhancement, offering relaxation areas and opportunities for small events and performances. Vianale emphasizes that Pescara should also follow this path to strengthen its tourism identity. “Visitors seek quality services and a welcoming atmosphere. Pescara has always been a hub for food entrepreneurship, blending innovation with tradition. Ensuring continuity in parklet permits means supporting those who invest in making the city more livable and attractive.”
A potential step forward could be the granting of permanent authorizations, reducing bureaucracy and providing greater security for entrepreneurs. “This decision would send a clear message of support to those actively contributing to the city’s economic and urban development,” concludes Vianale.
