Details of the investigation
The Carabinieri of Castelverde identified and reported a 60-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman for fraud in cooperation. The duo deceived a 56-year-old online seller, making him unknowingly transfer 1,875 euros to their Postepay cards. The victim, who had posted an ad to sell a piece of furniture, was contacted by a fake buyer who tricked him into making the transfers using codes provided over the phone.
How the scam unfolded
The victim, convinced he was receiving payment, made 15 transfers of 125 euros each via an ATM. He only realized the scam after the money was gone, and the buyer disappeared. Following the complaint, the carabinieri quickly investigated and identified the perpetrators, who have now been referred to the Judicial Authority of Cremona.
