Law enforcement dealt a major blow to drug trafficking in the province of Avellino. Thanks to a joint operation between the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza and a canine unit from Capodichino, over three kilograms of drugs were seized, including cocaine, hashish, and marijuana. Two individuals, a man and a woman from Aiello del Sabato, were arrested after the drugs were discovered cleverly hidden in a buried trapdoor and an abandoned vehicle.
A Targeted Operation to Dismantle Drug Networks
The operation was launched following an order from the Avellino Public Prosecutor’s Office, which had authorized a search based on extensive investigations. The raid was carried out with the assistance of LYAN, a drug-sniffing dog, specially trained to detect narcotics even in the most concealed hiding spots.
Authorities uncovered:
- 330 grams of cocaine, packaged in a vacuum-sealed block;
- 1,955 grams of hashish, divided into 19 blocks;
- 618 grams of marijuana, including 68 grams in separate bags and 550 grams in vacuum-sealed packages.
The drugs were hidden in two separate locations: a buried trapdoor and an abandoned vehicle, suggesting that the suspects used sophisticated methods to avoid detection.
Two Arrests and an Ongoing Investigation
The investigation led to the arrest of two individuals, a man and a woman residing in Aiello del Sabato, who now face charges of drug possession with intent to distribute. Authorities believe the seized drugs were intended for local distribution, contributing to the rising concern over substance abuse in the Avellino province.
A Continuous Fight Against Drugs
This major drug bust is part of a broader initiative led by the Avellino Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza. Over the past months, anti-drug operations have intensified, resulting in larger seizures and targeted arrests aimed at dismantling local drug networks.
Law enforcement’s goal is to disrupt criminal organizations, reduce drug circulation, and protect public safety. The message is clear: zero tolerance for drug trafficking, and surveillance will remain strict and relentless.
