The recently enacted law 203/2024 marks a significant step forward in protecting workers’ health and safety. Known as the “Collegato Lavoro,” this regulation introduces vital measures to enhance resource management and preventive measures at workplaces. Giuseppe Ciarcelluto, president of Assidal, an association dedicated to promoting safety culture, welcomes these changes, emphasizing the importance of ongoing training for all safety system stakeholders.

  • Annual safety report: The Minister of Labor must submit a report to Parliament by April 30 each year, highlighting critical issues and improvement strategies.
  • Monitoring medical professionals’ training: Special attention is given to the continuous qualification of occupational health professionals.
  • Competence transfer to local health authorities (Asl): Appeals regarding medical judgments will now be handled by Asl, ensuring quicker case reviews.
  • Comprehensive health records: Accepting privately conducted diagnostic tests will streamline processes, cutting costs and time for companies.
  • Underground space notifications: The regulation mandates notifying inspectors about the use of basements or semi-basements to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Towards a more effective safety system

Marco Belfiglio, Assidal’s vice president, highlights the law’s potential to simplify regulations and improve working conditions. “The key element is continuous and monitored training for all professionals involved,” he says. The role of the competent doctor is central: new measures will enable them to better assess risks and collaborate with companies to address challenges.

One notable improvement is the ability to arrange supplementary medical check-ups for employees with prolonged absences, strengthening prevention efforts and accelerating responses.

Collaboration as the key to success

Ciarcelluto and Belfiglio agree on the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders: employers, medical professionals, workers, and institutions. Assidal is committed to supporting its members through training and information activities, ensuring proper implementation of the new provisions nationwide.

The future of workplace safety relies on everyone’s commitment: law 203/2024 offers an opportunity to build a safer, more efficient, and sustainable system.
