Record drug seizure in a shopping center parking lot
During a complex anti-drug operation, Perugia’s financial police, supported by a canine unit, stopped an Albanian citizen in the parking area of a shopping center in Castiglione del Lago. The suspect’s nervous behavior raised suspicions, further confirmed by the drug-sniffing dogs, which detected traces of illicit substances in the vehicle.
A hidden compartment and a significant discovery
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found that the front airbag compartment was missing its protective device, suggesting a “double bottom” often used for drug concealment. This prompted further searches at the man’s residence in Castiglione del Lago.
16 kilograms of cocaine uncovered
The home search led to the seizure of 15 packages of cocaine, totaling over 16 kilograms. The drugs, valued at approximately €500,000 wholesale, could have generated over €1.5 million on the streets.
A key arrest in the fight against illegal trafficking
The man was arrested and taken to the Perugia prison. This operation is part of the Perugia financial police’s broader strategy to combat illicit trafficking, with a strong focus on narcotics smuggling.
