The noir novel “L’altra morte” by Gisa Ruffini La Piana will debut in Catania on January 16 at 7 PM at Legatoria Prampolini (Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 333 – Catania). This book, a finalist at the Milazzo Crime Book Fest, is written by Giusy La Piana and Simona Ruffini, two criminologists who bring real cold cases to life in their fiction. The event will be moderated by Elisa Toscano (FERPI Sicilia delegate). Admission is free.

A thriller written by crime experts

Gisa Ruffini La Piana is the pseudonym of two criminology professionals who combine expertise and passion to create novels with accurate investigations, realistic characters, and thrilling plots. “L’altra morte,” published by Affiori, is the first book in a series, set in Catania, Turin, and Rome.

The protagonists are two strong women: Maya Lee Ray, an FBI profiler, an expert in micro-facial expressions, and Gina Isman, a Sicilian criminologist skilled in survival techniques. Together, they take on a case that ties them to their past, facing hidden truths and personal demons.

The plot: a mystery spanning 37 years

Turin, 1980. After 30 days in captivity, 18-year-old Veronica “Nica” Marangoni is released, but the identity of the inside man remains unknown. Thirty-seven years later, she hires Maya Lee Ray to uncover the truth. Maya travels to Catania to involve Gina Isman, reminding her of a childhood promise. Their journey leads them to Turin, where they confront an ongoing conspiracy.
