Strengthening cooperation between Italy and the UK
The strategic security committee between Italy and the UK was held in London, marking a significant step in addressing major challenges faced by the police forces of both nations. The delegations, led by Italy’s Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani and Matthew Rycroft, Home Office Permanent Secretary, discussed key topics such as combating illegal immigration, terrorist threats, and cybercrime, as well as tackling transnational criminal organizations.
A permanent task force for innovative strategies
One key outcome of the meeting was the proposal to establish a permanent task force between the two nations. This team will analyze data and track illicit proceeds generated by migrant exploitation, following the “follow the money” principle. The task force aims to leverage the potential of artificial intelligence for law enforcement purposes and engage other countries and agencies to expand operational tools and share valuable insights.
Tackling radicalization and terrorist propaganda
A special focus was placed on countering violent radicalization and the early detection of terrorist propaganda, which increasingly targets minors. Shared experiences highlighted the critical role of preventive strategies in mitigating these threats.
