A long-awaited triple victory
Emma Piccinin (BC Milano) made history at the Italian Badminton Championships 2024, claiming titles in the women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. This feat had not been achieved by a female player since Federica Panini in 2010.
In the women’s singles, Emma defeated reigning champion Yasmine Hamza (SSV Bozen) in straight sets (21-19, 21-14). She continued her dominance in doubles, teaming up with Martina Corsini to defeat Sofia Galimberti and Anna Hell (21-10, 21-13) and partnering with Gianmarco Bailetti in the mixed doubles, winning against David Salutt and Martina Corsini (21-19, 21-14).
Men’s victories and first-time champions
In the men’s singles, Christopher Vittoriani (MaraBadminton) claimed his third consecutive title, defeating Fabio Caponio in a thrilling three-set match (21-17, 10-21, 21-13). Alessandro Gozzini and Luca Zhou captured their first men’s doubles title, edging out Matteo Massetti and David Salutt in a close match (21-19, 25-23).
Para Badminton: standout performances
In para badminton, Yuri Ferrigno (BC Milano) shone with two victories: the WH doubles title with Roberto Punzo and the men’s singles title, beating Vincenzo Contemi (21-3, 21-2). Similarly, Maria Grazia Leone won the women’s WH singles and mixed doubles titles with Giuseppe Maurizio. Piero Rosario Suma triumphed in the WH men’s doubles, while Rosa De Marco (SU5) and Tommaso Libertini (SL3) claimed the standing titles.
