Israel strikes the heart of Damascus

Escalation in Syria: presidential palace targeted

In a bold and unexpected move, the Israeli Air Force struck the area surrounding the presidential palace in Damascus. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack via Telegram, stating: “The planes hit the area around the palace”.

A threat turned into action

Israel had previously warned the Syrian government: protect the Druze minority, or face military retaliation. The Druze, a religious minority, have been caught in clashes with Syrian security forces in recent days, particularly in regions historically marked by instability.

The Druze crisis ignites the conflict

Armed groups linked to the Syrian Druze community have been engaged in intense fighting. Their demands for security and autonomy have escalated into full-blown confrontations. Israel, claiming to defend religious minorities, opted for a show of force this time.

A volatile international landscape

This raid sends a dual message — to Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the international community. But it may also provoke regional powers like Russia and Iran, who are close allies of Syria. The incident could further destabilize an already fragile geopolitical balance.
