A drama on Longano viaduct
A swift emergency response averted a tragedy near the Longano viaduct on State Road 85 Venafrana, close to the Isernia-South exit. A man in a state of confusion threatened to jump, prompting law enforcement to act after he called the 112 emergency number.
Swift action from law enforcement
Operators at the Command Center, specially trained to handle sensitive situations, attempted to calm the man through a phone conversation. However, the situation escalated, necessitating an on-site intervention. Three teams from the Isernia carabinieri were dispatched, supported by State Police and Fire Brigade units.
Negotiation and rescue
The man, clinging to the parapet, appeared exhausted and resolute in his intention. After securing the area and halting traffic, law enforcement initiated a dialogue to earn his trust. Seizing a moment of distraction, the carabinieri and police officers managed to grab him, successfully pulling him to safety with the help of the Fire Brigade.
Medical intervention
Once back on the road, the man was entrusted to 118 medical staff, who provided immediate care before transferring him to the “F. Veneziale” Civil Hospital in Isernia. The teamwork between carabinieri, police, and firefighters was crucial in ensuring a successful outcome.
