Caltanissetta has been the stage of a major operation led by Italy’s Financial Police, cracking down on the illegal trade of anabolic substances and unauthorized pharmaceuticals. Dubbed “Heavy Weights”, the operation resulted in the seizure of over 30,000 doses of doping products and prescription drugs destined for the black market, particularly targeting gyms and private consumers.
Investigating the Online Trade: Social Networks Under Scrutiny
The investigation, launched in 2024, involved a detailed analysis of online sales, focusing on social media platformsand unauthorized e-commerce websites. Through extensive territorial monitoring, the Guardia di Finanza was able to uncover a clandestine distribution network directly linked to foreign suppliers.
The inquiry revealed a parallel market where various anabolic substances, including synthetic testosterone, steroids, and other performance-enhancing drugs, were sold without medical prescriptions or safety controls.
€100,000 Worth of Seized Goods: A Blow to the Black Market
Through targeted operations, the financial police disrupted the illegal trade, confiscating capsules and vialscontaining banned substances and restricted pharmaceuticals. The estimated value of the seized goods reaches approximately €100,000, highlighting a profitable yet dangerous underground economy.
Beyond the seizure, authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the distribution network, which operated discreetly across the Caltanissetta province.
