A pilgrimage of faith and sacrifice
On February 8 and 9, the heart of Rome beat in unison with the men and women in uniform, protagonists of the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security. Despite the relentless rain, military personnel, officers, and security operators from all over the world gathered for a solemn and deeply spiritual event.
The opening moment was the passage through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, a significant act for those who dedicate their lives to serving the community. Emotions ran high, reflecting the deep meaning of this symbolic gesture for those who serve with discipline and courage.
Music as a universal language
On Saturday afternoon, Piazza del Popolo transformed into a grand stage for a band concert, welcoming the participants and blending solemnity with the evocative power of music. Before a distinguished audience, including Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Police Chief Vittorio Pisani, the National Anthem was performed by the Interforce Band, with tenor Francesco Grollo lending his powerful voice.
The evening continued with performances by Raphael Gualazzi and screenings of films highlighting the significance of the Jubilee, celebrating the Armed Forces and Police through a language beyond words.
Pride shines despite the rain
The weather did not dampen the spirit of the event. Disciplined formations, resolute gazes, and synchronized steps highlighted the solemnity of the moment, echoing the famous song lyrics: “The heart beats strong in the rain.” Among the participants were the Trainee Inspectors of the 19th Course from the Nettuno School, accompanied by Dr. Lorena Di Felice and Dr. Rosanna Pellino.
Equally crucial was the contribution of the ANPS volunteers, whose tireless dedication ensured the event’s success, reinforcing the importance of support and cooperation in security.
The Jubilee’s climax: Mass with Pope Francis
On Sunday, February 9, the most anticipated moment took place in St. Peter’s Square: the Holy Mass celebrated by Pope Francis. A vast crowd of uniformed personnel, civil and military authorities gathered to hear the Pope’s words of encouragement and gratitude towards those who devote their lives to ensuring safety and peace.
A message of dedication and hope
The Jubilee of the Armed Forces was not only a moment of faith but also a reaffirmation of the essential role played by those who safeguard our cities. As Pope John Paul II once said: “Soldiers are like sentinels, watching ahead to prevent danger.”
A heartfelt tribute to those who, come rain or shine, serve with honor, courage, and sacrifice.
