Friday, November 29, will mark a crucial day for workers across Italy. Cgil and Uil have called for a general strike, involving all sectors, public and private, including subcontracted and auxiliary services. In Abruzzo, the mobilization includes protests in front of the four regional prefectures: Chieti, L’Aquila, Pescara, and Teramo.

The strike aims to address pressing issues:

  • opposing the reduction of universal welfare and cuts to public investments;
  • demanding the withdrawal of the Security Bill that restricts the right to strike and protest;
  • supporting the renewal of collective contracts and safeguarding pensions;
  • promoting innovative industrial policies and improving workplace safety;
  • fighting job insecurity and fostering new hiring in the public sector.

Scheduled events in the four prefectures

Protests will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the prefectures of Chieti, L’Aquila, Pescara, and Teramo. Local and national union leaders will participate to explain the reasons behind the action.

  • In Chieti, speakers include Francesco Spina (Cgil), Nicola Manzi (Uil), Maria Piccone (Public Function Doctors), and Vito Panzarella (Uil national).
  • In L’Aquila, Francesco Marrelli (Cgil) and Sandro Colombi (Uil national).
  • In Pescara, Fabiola Ortolano (Uil) and Daniela Barbaresi (Cgil national).
  • In Teramo, Massimiliano Braco (Uil) and Sandro Del Fattore (Cgil national).

A clear message to the national government

Regional secretaries of Cgil and Uil, Carmine Ranieri and Michele Lombardo, emphasized the need for concrete responses from the national government. “This strike is a call to improve public healthcare, combat low wages, support the automotive sector that employs 28,000 workers in Abruzzo, and ensure salary increases for a dignified life.”

Delegations will deliver a document to the prefectures outlining key demands and highlighting the critical issues affecting the region.
