Major anti-counterfeiting operations in Sesto Fiorentino

As part of the fight against counterfeiting, the Florence Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza carried out two large-scale operations, seizing over 55,000 counterfeit items, including bags, belts, and fabrics from high-fashion brands like Ralph Lauren, Fendi, and Michael Kors. Investigations focused on Osmannoro, a strategic area in the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino for wholesale trade.

The operations were launched following the development of intelligence gathered in the field. Using advanced monitoring techniques, the financial police identified storage locations and tracked the individuals involved through traditional and modern investigative tools.

Details of the seizures

The first operation resulted in the seizure of 36,498 leather goods featuring the iconic Ralph Lauren logo, depicting a polo player on horseback, first introduced in 1972 and globally recognized. The counterfeit items were so meticulously replicated that they could easily deceive buyers.

The second operation involved the seizure of 19,050 meters of fabric bearing unauthorized reproductions of the Fendi and Michael Kors trademarks. Among them, Fendi’s famous “double F” monogram, known as the “inverted Zucca,” a fashion icon for over fifty years. Similarly, the “MK” logo of Michael Kors was found on falsified fabrics, as confirmed by experts.

Commitment to market protection

The suspects, of Chinese nationality, were reported to the Florence Public Prosecutor’s Office for trading counterfeit goods and receiving stolen property. Investigations are ongoing, with final accountability to be determined in court.

These operations are part of a broader market protection strategy by the Guardia di Finanza, which last year alone seized 175,000 counterfeit items, reporting over 20 individuals for trademark violations.

The financial police’s dedication not only protects consumers but also ensures a fair market, free from unfair competition and illegal activities.
