Last night, around 3:00 a.m., a dramatic event unfolded on Italy’s A4 highway. A routine patrol by Padua’s traffic police in the Limenella Est service area turned into a high-speed pursuit when officers spotted a black Renault Clio speeding in the wrong direction.
The driver, realizing he was being pursued, quickly turned the car to rejoin the correct lane. However, a database check revealed troubling details: the driver, born in 1993, lacked a valid driver’s license, and the vehicle was already under administrative seizure for a prior traffic violation.
A tense, high-speed pursuit
Initially stopping for police, the driver suddenly sped off again, maneuvering back onto the highway towards Milan. The pursuit, spanning nearly 30 kilometers, ended when the car ran out of fuel and stopped in a lay-by near Verona.
In a last-ditch effort to evade capture, the driver crawled out through the passenger-side window and attempted to climb over the guard rail. Unbeknownst to him, a dangerous drop awaited beyond the barrier. Thanks to the officers’ swift intervention, the driver was restrained just in time, averting a potentially fatal fall.
Arrest and immediate sentencing
Both the driver and the officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest. Taken to Verona’s court, the man was swiftly sentenced to four months in prison, with the sentence suspended on probation.
