Fim, Fiom and Uilm skip the meeting at the Ministry of Labour on extraordinary wage support
The unions’ decision
Fim, Fiom and Uilm have announced they will not take part in today’s meeting at the Ministry of Labour regarding the extraordinary wage support (CIG) for ex Ilva. The choice is a political signal: according to the unions, the meeting was convened “in a way that tends to exclude the opinion of workers and their representatives.” Hence, their request for a postponement.
Critical issues in the dossier
The discussion comes at a sensitive moment. The deadline for bids to acquire ex Ilva’s assets has expired, yet – as the unions underline – “the only available element is a company press release indicating ten bidders.” A situation they deem insufficient to seriously address the future of the steel group.
Waiting for a meeting at Palazzo Chigi
For Fim, Fiom and Uilm, it makes little sense to debate extraordinary wage support without first having a clear picture of the company’s destiny and of the workers’ future. That is why the unions are calling for a summit at Palazzo Chigi, involving the government and the special commissioners, to clarify “which path the Government intends to give to the ex Ilva group.”
The question of industrial strategy
The ex Ilva dossier remains open and highly complex: at stake are not only industrial continuity, but also employment guarantees for thousands of workers. Without clear answers on ownership, investments, and industrial strategy, the risk, according to the unions, is a fragmented management with no long-term vision.
