Final approval: Senate gives green light to Energy Bill Decree
With 99 votes in favor, 62 against and 1 abstention, the Italian Senate has officially passed the Energy Bill Decree, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies on April 16. The decree is now law, marking a crucial step in delivering energy support measures for citizens and businesses.
€200 bonus for 8 million low-income households
The centerpiece of the measure is the €200 bonus, targeted at those with an Isee (income indicator) under €25,000. Around 8 million households will benefit from this aid, which will be automatically deducted from their energy bills.
Support for energy-intensive companies and SMEs
The decree also includes support for energy-intensive industries and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), both hard-hit by rising costs. These incentives are designed to stabilize production and safeguard jobs in the current volatile market.
Protection for vulnerable customers and more transparency
New safeguards are in place for vulnerable customers, preventing disconnections and sudden rate hikes. Additionally, providers will be required to ensure greater transparency in their pricing structures, empowering consumers to make informed decisions.
From law to action: implementation is key
Now that the Energy Bill Decree is law, attention turns to how swiftly and effectively it will be implemented. The real test lies in ensuring the promised relief reaches those who need it most, without bureaucratic delays.
