The last weekend of August: traffic and returns
The last weekend of August saw an increase in traffic on roads and highways managed by Anas (FS Italiane Group), with particularly heavy flows during the daytime hours and northbound towards major urban centers. However, data shows a 5% decrease in overall traffic compared to the previous weekend.
The numbers of the return exodus
Anas recorded about 2.6 million transits on the A2 Mediterranean Highway, with northbound traffic 80% higher than southbound. The most heavily trafficked sections included Baronissi with 167,000 vehicles, and Pontecagnano Faiano with about 255,000 transits. The SS16 Adriatica and SS1 Aurelia also saw intense flows, but with a slight decrease compared to the previous weekend.
Other arteries and night-time mobility
Along the Tyrrhenian coast and other main arteries, such as the SS148 Pontina and SS18 Tirrena Inferiore, traffic showed variable trends, with some sections decreasing and others increasing. The SS148 Pontina saw an 8% increase in transits, while the SS18 recorded a 16% decrease. Anas deployed about 2,500 resources to ensure safety and constant traffic monitoring.
