A DHL cargo plane, en route from Germany to Vilnius airport, crashed near Liepkalnis at 5:30 AM on Monday, November 25. Security camera footage captured the aircraft plunging before striking a building and immediately catching fire.
Casualty report
The crash claimed the life of one pilot, a Spaniard, while the second pilot survived but sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Two others onboard were also injured. Thankfully, the 12 residents of the two-story residential building were safely evacuated.
Investigating the causes
According to Lithuanian police chief Renatas Pozela, the crash may have been caused by a technical failure or human error. Authorities have ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack.
