The extraordinary checks ordered by the Chief of Police in Lecce province continue, targeting drug trafficking and property crimes. Over Thursday and Friday evenings, UPG and SP officers conducted numerous stops, identifying 970 individuals, monitoring 315 vehicles, and checking 95 people under judicial restrictions.
During one operation, officers spotted two young men acting suspiciously upon seeing the patrol car. They quickly tried to evade the police by splitting up. One of them was caught after a foot chase that ended inside a commercial establishment where he attempted to hide in the bathroom.
Officers recovered a package containing 47.57 grams of hashish, which the young man had discarded into the sink. A subsequent personal search revealed an additional 20.41 grams hidden in his underwear. In total, 68 grams of drugs were seized. A home search yielded no further findings.
The suspect, a 21-year-old from a nearby town, was arrested in flagrante delicto and placed under house arrest by the Public Prosecutor’s order. Already subject to a prior warning, he has now been issued an Exile Order barring him from Lecce for three years.
Authorities emphasize that all information respects the rights of suspects and the presumption of innocence.
