Charges and investigation findings

The suspects face charges including mafia association, extortion, robbery, illegal possession of weapons, and personal aiding and abetting. Investigators identified a key figure in the organization: an individual involved in sheep farming who acted as the operational arm of the imprisoned mafia boss. This individual managed illegal activities ranging from debt collection to drug trafficking between Palermo and the Mazara territory.

Economic control and criminal infiltration

The investigation revealed the economic dominance exercised by the mafia through control of grazing lands and auctioned properties. Violent disputes arose over the division of assets.

Additionally, a network of supermarkets tied to a Mazara-based entrepreneur was uncovered. This entrepreneur expanded his businesses with the mafia’s backing, in return for employment opportunities for affiliates, financial support, and the acquisition of auctioned properties to restore them to Cosa nostra’s influence.

Guardia di Finanza’s commitment

This operation showcases the Guardia di Finanza’s relentless efforts to combat mafia infiltration and safeguard market competitiveness. Their work is crucial in maintaining the rule of law in economic systems.

As always, it is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
