Starting Friday, January 3, 2025, the new single by Demagó, “Brucia il sogno sotto il velo” (Burn the dream under the veil) will be available on all streaming platforms and radio airwaves. Released by Blackcandy Produzioni, the song anticipates the EP “Where are you going tonight,” coming out on January 10, 2025.
“Brucia il sogno sotto il velo” is more than just a song; it is a powerful protest anthem against the conditions of Iranian women, who are forced to live under repressive laws that strip them of their fundamental rights. The song draws inspiration from the story of Roya Heshmati, an Iranian activist sentenced to 74 lashes for posting a picture without her hijab, and Mahsa Amini, brutally killed in September 2022 for allegedly wearing her veil incorrectly.
The lyrics exude rage and pain, but also the extraordinary resilience of women fighting for freedom. In their eyes, “wider than evil itself,” one can see the determination of those who refuse to bow their heads. Their voices echo through the melody, narrating the suffering and hope of an oppressed people striving for change.
A powerful message, visually and musically
The Demagó explain: “The girl depicted on the single cover is Mahsa Amini, murdered by the Iranian Religious Police. After her killing, the slogan ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ became the symbol of protests in Iran. When our illustrator Alessandro Bacchetta heard the song, he immediately shared an image from his collection dedicated to the condition of Iranian women. This completed the circle, merging music and art into a single, powerful message.”
The lyric video, directed by Livio Savini with artistic direction by Emanuele Bruschi, amplifies the song’s impact through a visual narrative of women’s protests in Iran. The video combines poignant imagery with the song’s lyrics, turning the single into a true statement of solidarity and resistance.
Demagó’s artistic journey
The Demagó are an Italian rock and singer-songwriter band with a career marked by key collaborations. After their debut album “Linea di confine” in 2015 and their 2021 EP “Ferite,” the band has shared stages with artists like Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Meganoidi, and Pierpaolo Capovilla. In 2023, they released “Anime nella pioggia,” solidifying their place in the indie music scene.
