BNP Paribas Asset Management has announced the launch of the BNP Paribas Low Carbon Transition Infra Equity Fund I, a groundbreaking fund aiming to raise €750 million from institutional investors such as insurance companies, pension funds, and corporations. This initiative is a significant step towards supporting low-carbon infrastructure projects in strategic areas like clean energy, sustainable mobility, and circular economy.

A diversified and sustainable investment strategy

The fund seeks to build a diversified portfolio with 8-12 equity investments in Core+ and Value-Add infrastructure projects. Operations will focus exclusively in Europe, fostering innovative technologies such as batteries, hydrogen, and carbon capture. This approach efficiently channels capital toward critical energy transition projects, leveraging stringent selection criteria defined by BNPP AM’s Sustainability Centre.

So far, the fund has completed two major investments:

  1. Absolute Energy: a stake in an Italian renewable energy developer aiming to create a 3-gigawatt pipeline of solar, wind, and storage projects.
  2. Arkolia: a joint controlling stake in a leading French company specializing in rooftop solar photovoltaic projects.

A strong commitment to sustainability

Classified as Article 8 under the SFDR regulation, the fund incorporates a robust ESG policy. BNP Paribas has committed as the fund’s “anchor investor” with an initial €400 million, demonstrating its strong support for energy transition initiatives.

According to Rodolphe Brumm, Head of Infrastructure Private Equity at BNP Paribas Asset Management, the fund addresses the rising demand for low-carbon investments:

“This initiative highlights our pivotal role in financing the energy transition, delivering value to investors while contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Karen Azoulay, Head of Real Assets at BNPP AM, emphasized the milestone’s importance for the expansion of their infrastructure activities:

“With proven expertise in low-carbon solutions and strong client interest, we are confident in the success of this fundraising effort.”

Reliable management for a sustainable future

The fund is managed by BNPP AM’s Private Assets unit, led by David Bouchoucha, with over 100 professionals overseeing assets exceeding €40 billion. Authorized by France’s Autorité des Marchés Financiers, the fund is a step closer to building a greener world.
