
A theft at the Conad supermarket in Rio Saliceto ended with the arrest of a 48-year-old man, thanks to the prompt action of an off-duty carabiniere. The man, a Parma resident, was caught red-handed attempting to steal groceries worth approximately €400.
The dynamics of the theft
The incident occurred on November 29 at around 12 p.m. A supermarket employee noticed a suspicious individual near the store’s entrance carrying a large, heavy bag. After leaving the premises in a hurry, the man was chased by the employee. During the pursuit, the thief abandoned the bag containing the stolen goods, but his escape was thwarted by the intervention of an off-duty carabiniere from Campagnola Emilia, who happened to witness the scene.
Arrest in the act of crime
The off-duty officer promptly detained the man while a patrol alerted by the supermarket employee arrived within minutes. The carabinieri from Campagnola Emilia recovered the stolen items and arrested the 48-year-old on charges of improper robbery. After standard procedures, the man was placed at the disposal of the Reggio Emilia prosecutor’s office for further investigations.
Ongoing investigations
The case is currently in the preliminary investigation phase to ascertain the defendant’s responsibility. The prosecutor’s office, led by Prosecutor Gaetano Calogero Paci, is conducting further investigations to clarify the matter.
