The first arrest
On October 10, the Carabinieri of the Scandiano Police Station arrested a 55-year-old man, residing in a ceramic district municipality, on charges of aggravated theft. The man had forced open the door of the “Mifidodite” shop and stolen various Christmas items worth approximately €300.
The prompt intervention of law enforcement, alerted by passersby, led to the man’s apprehension and the recovery of the stolen goods, which were returned to the owner. Following his arrest, precautionary measures were applied, including a residence restriction in Scandiano and daily reporting to the judicial police.
Violations of precautionary measures
Despite the imposed restrictions, the man continued to break the law. On November 24, during a routine night check, the Carabinieri found that he had left his residence, violating the residence restriction. Just days later, on November 27, he committed another act of theft: taking advantage of a moment of distraction at a public establishment, he stole a mobile phone from a drawer.
Surveillance footage confirmed the suspect’s identity, linking him to multiple thefts targeting commercial establishments in the area.
Aggravation of precautionary measures
The Reggio Emilia Prosecutor’s Office, informed by the Carabinieri, requested stricter measures. The court granted the request, ordering pre-trial detention in prison. The man was arrested in recent days and taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations will continue to shed light on the facts and support any further legal actions.
This case highlights the crucial role of vigilant law enforcement and the importance of community cooperation, which enabled timely reporting of illegal activities.
