Light spaces to welcome families: innovative ideas for the Paripasso HUBs
A synergy between education and design
The “Light spaces to welcome families” workshop turned Bari into a hub of ideas for making the Paripasso spaces more welcoming. Organized as part of the “Paripasso – Growing Together” project, selected by Con i Bambini to combat educational poverty, the event involved the Department and School of Design at Politecnico di Milano.
The Paripasso HUBs, dedicated to children aged 0-6, are located in various Italian cities such as Desio, Valle Trompia, Castel Volturno, Rome, and Zagarolo. These hubs aim to provide flexible, innovative, and family-friendly educational spaces.
Ideas for accessible and inclusive spaces
Five students from Politecnico di Milano, under the guidance of professors Barbara Camocini and Elena Giunta, analyzed the HUB space in Bari. They designed prototypes of educational tools to make environments more accessible and welcoming, engaging children, families, and the educational community.
Prototypes such as “Little and Big Bari” and “Easel and Frame” blend play and learning. Interactive modules allow children to explore their city through iconic buildings, while the easels foster parent-child collaboration.
Support for children and parents
The Paripasso HUBs are more than play areas: they are support centers for families, with multidisciplinary teams offering educational programs and parenting support. This approach integrates architecture, design, and pedagogy, ensuring stimulating and inclusive spaces.
Dafne Guida, President of Cooperativa Stripes, emphasized, “The quality of spaces is crucial for learning. Collaboration between design and pedagogy is at the core of this project.”
