According to Unimpresa, the regatta will bring €690 million to Campania and turn Southern Italy into a key hub for tourism and yachting
A global event, a historic opportunity for Naples
The America’s Cup 2027, for the first time in Italy, is more than a sporting event—it’s an economic catalyst for Naples and Campania. According to Unimpresa, the region stands to gain over €690 million in the short term, while the South of Italy will benefit from additional tourism and interregional services. An estimated 1.5 to 1.7 million visitors will attend, including 400,000–500,000 international tourists drawn specifically by the regatta.
Direct impact: tourism, logistics and organizational costs
Direct tourist spending is projected at €370.5 million, while local event logistics will add €70 million, and sailing teams’ expenses another €21.6 million, totaling a direct impact of €462 million. The regattas will take place between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo, with team bases in Bagnoli, an area slated for urban renewal.
Infrastructure, supply chains and multiplier effects
Indirect benefits worth €165 million will arise from infrastructure investments and local suppliers, including over 300 contracts for services such as security and catering. An economic multiplier of 1.1, typical of Southern Italy, adds another €62.7 million, bringing the total economic impact to nearly €690 million.
Long-term transformation: tourism, innovation and blue economy
Like Valencia after 2007, Naples could see sustainable growth in tourism and yachting. An increase of 5–10% in tourist arrivals could generate up to €400 million annually for the next decade. The event will also fuel the blue economy, attracting €50–100 million in private investment in nautical industries, youth training, and innovation.
Wider benefits and risks for Southern Italy
Regions like Puglia and Sicily may supply goods and services for an additional €100–150 million, while spillover tourism could add €50–100 million more. However, Unimpresa warns of risks: low regional multipliers, high organizational costs, and potential delays in Bagnoli redevelopment. Ensuring efficient management will be key to seizing this opportunity.
