Routine highway check uncovers major drug operation
During a routine traffic surveillance operation on the A1 highway near Parma, Italian police stopped a car carrying two Italian citizens. Suspicious behavior and a pungent smell emanating from the vehicle prompted officers to investigate further.
Under the passenger’s front seat, two cardboard boxes were discovered, each containing sealed packages. Laboratory analysis by Parma’s Scientific Police confirmed the substance was hashish, weighing approximately 8 kilograms.
Immediate arrest and drug seizure
The two individuals were promptly arrested for drug trafficking. Following investigations conducted with the Judicial Police Squad, they were transferred to Parma’s prison under the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is overseeing the case.
A custody order was later issued by the examining magistrate, validating the actions taken. Meanwhile, the seized drugs are now in police custody.
Presumption of innocence: a cornerstone of justice
In accordance with Italy’s presumption of innocence, the suspects’ guilt will only be confirmed through a final court ruling. This principle ensures a fair trial and protects individual rights.
