APRE - the Agency for the Promotion of European Research, in collaboration with the DG Research - Directorate L “Science, Economy and Society”, is pleased to invite you at the conference Fostering Dialogue among Stakeholders in European ResearchConference on the Gender and Migration policy which will take place in Rome (Italy), at the National Research Council, on the 18th of June 2010. This conference brings together all stakeholders under one roof including researchers, policy makers and civil society to discuss the challenges and benefits of mutual cooperation. Please find attached a provisional agenda and a background document explaining the conference objectives. The conference is organised in the frame of the GEMMA project “Enhancing Policy through European Research in Gender & Migration” funded by the DG Research - Directorate L “Science, Economy and Society”. The event will be in English and Italian languages, simultaneous translation will be available.

A study by Yale University, led by geneticist Tian Xu and published in the journal Nature, sheds light on the mechanisms of cancer development. The research was conducted on fruit flies and focused on the analysis of two genes known for their role in the formation of malignant tumors: RAS and Scribble (Scribble) normally prevents the onset of cancer but, when mutated, favors. Until now it was believed that, because you generate a tumor, the coexistence was necessary, within the same cell, both mutations of RAS and Scribble. American researchers have instead shown that the occurrence of more mutations need not necessarily involve a single cancer cell, but it must occur within the same tissue. The devastating earthquake in Haiti is by far the biggest natural disaster in the age of Twitter, and the reaction on micro-blogging site has been proportionate to the event.According to Twitter.com, four of the ten most popular topics on which the messages were in Haiti, where the dead for an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on Tuesday could have caused tens of thousands of victims.
Among the topics of the messages, "Port-au-Prince," "Help Haiti" and "Yele" charitable organization founded by musician and record producer Wyclef Jean Haitian origin.
Jean is asking people to type the word "Yele" to number 501,501, a way to make a donation of $ 5 to Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

The President of Haiti, Rene Preval, is concerned that thousands are victims of a magnitude 7 earthquake that struck yesterday afternoon in the capital of his country by destroying schools, hospitals and offices of the institutions. Speaking for the first time to the media after the quake, Preval told the newspaper "Miami Herald" that the scene in the capital Port-au-Prince is "unimaginable". "Parliament has collapsed.
